MedShare International - Next date September 11, 2010

The QCC Is looking for a new MedShare coordinator. Please e-mail Mike Mcguire to take on this task.

MedShare International performs an incredible job of providing medical supplies to well over 100 mostly third world countries across the globe. They do this work with volunteer efforts of hospital and other medical personnel in greater Atlanta as well as all over the U.S. who provide medical supplies that would otherwise wind up in landfills. And, MedShare are only able to totally fulfill their worthwhile mission through the volunteers who do the packaging, labeling, and preparing for shipment of these supplies.

Visit Medshare's website.

ICARE Inc.

Wanted: Volunteer drivers needed to help senior citizens of Dekalb County get to their medical appointments. Join ICARE today and start making a difference in their lives and your own.

ICARE, Inc was established as a non-profit organization more than 10 years ago by several IBMers who saw the challenges that senior citizens in Dekalb County had in getting to their medical appointments. With a group of volunteer drivers, they provide more than 1000 round trips each year. ICARE needs new volunteers to keep up with the increased demand.

John Buchholz of the QCC has been a driver for ICARE and has been on their board for 6 years; it has been a very rewarding experience for him. Times are very flexible as to when and how often you drive.

For more information, please check out the ICARE web site or contact John Buchholz.

IBM On Demand Community

If you volunteer in any way, please register at the IBM on Demand Community web site and then register your hours.  You can qualify for larger grants for your organization and perhaps, receive recognition from IBM or even from the President.  IBM will recognize those with more than 100 hours of volunteer time.  The President's Volunteer Service Award honors Americans who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to volunteer service.

Here are the websites for IBM Retirees and active IBM Employees (from IBM Intranet):

Matching Grants Program

The Matching Grants Program enables employees and retirees to increase the value of their donations to higher education institutions, hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, cultural and environmental organizations with a matching gift from IBM. The recipient organization can choose to receive the gift in the form of either cash or IBM equipment. If it chooses to receive equipment, IBM will match an active employee contribution at two or three times the cash match, depending on the type of organization. If the organization chooses cash, the match is 1:1.

The IBM K-12 Matching Grants Program is a special program that enables employees and retirees to contribute to the donation of PC Equipment to eligible pre-schools, childcare centers and K-12 schools. The donated equipment must be selected from a menu of selected configurations. The match provided by IBM for employees may be as high as 4:1.

The Matching Grants Application is available on this web site. For additional information, you can call 800-777-4768 for the K-12 Matching Grants Program. For other types of Matching Grant opportunities call 800-796-9876.

Fund for Community Service Grants Program

The IBM Fund for Community Service is now accepting applications for 2007.

If you volunteer with a charitable group, you may be eligible for a grant from the Fund for Community Service. If you have been volunteering for at least six months and volunteer an average of 8 hours per month, your organization may be eligible to receive a computer or reimbursement for an expense up to $1,000 from IBM. The application and additional information about the Fund for Community Service Program is available on this site.
